Founded in 1994, the Laurel Trio has distinguished itself as one of America's foremost young piano trios. In just its second year, the group won the Nathan Wedeen Management Award at the Concert Artists Guild Competition and soon after, as winner of the Pro Piano Competition, made its debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
In recent seasons the members of the trio have served as artists-in-residence at WQXR, the radio station of The New York Times, for which they presented sixteen broadcast programs and performed numerous concerts throughout New York City. Other engagements include invitations to Merkin Concert Hall, the Kosciuszko Foundation, and the Alexander Schneider Series at the New School in New York City, the Gardner Museum in Boston, and the La Jolla Chamber Music Society and the Sacramento Festival of New American Music in California. The group has performed internationally at the Teatro De La Ciudad in Monterrey, Mexico and for the National Concert Association in Panama.
During the summers the trio has been heard as piano trio-in-residence at the Tanglewood Music Center and participates in festivals such as the Portland Chamber Music Festival, the Laurel Festival of the Arts, and Music at Gretna. The trio's recording of "Tapestries," a composition written for them by Californian composer Richard Festinger with a grant from the Koussevitzky Music Foundation, was released this year on the CRI label. |
