Last I heard Des Hoebig was the orchestra's choice by far (including Ron Leonard's)but the management wants more of a 'performer' type ala Carter Brey. I think that is the most frightening thing I have heard in a long time. Des is a great player and if they start taking second rate soloists... (not that Carter is second rate in any way, but who else like that is out there?) Des won the Met principal and turned it down. LA would be crazy to pass up on him, but I heard he's rather offended now. That's the latest I know- anyone have more recent info??
