The Israel String Quartet was founded in 1957 by four musicians of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Since then all the original members have changed, but even today its members are all in leading positions in the IPO. Since its beginning, the Israel String Quartet has remained faithful to its aims: first, to bring the best of chamber music to as many listeners as possible in Israel and abroad. Second to present a wide selection of contemporary music in addition to the classic/romantic repertoire. The ISQ is especially interested in presenting modern Israeli compositions, as well as contemporary music from around the world. |
The quartet has toured successfully in many European nations, and in the United States, Canada, Austrailia, Scandanavia and Japan. The Israel String Quartet has recorded for major radio and television studios, and has made recordings with RCA, and in Japan with JOD Classics.
