Here is another consideration, Laura. We had six cellists in our larger chamber orchestra. The Principal cellist (my stand partner) was from Salzburg. Right behind us sat cellists from Berlin and Switzerland. Behind that was Spain and Bavaria. So there is also the nationality to consider if you play in Asia or Europe or elsewhere. I have to say that I was very fond of the other cellists. Reall, I felt as though my stand partner was a big sister to me. Iam afraid she felt as though I was a little brother! This aggressive cellist from New York learned a lot about the subtleties of rhythm from that elegant, Austrian friend. Getting along! We had Croats and Serbs in the orchestra as well as some other interesting combos! Kept things interesting. DGEE
