When he played the Haydn with an orchestra I was formerly in it was average.But, he ws trying a Gofriller cello and he clearly didn't know the instrument yet. Then as an encore he played the courante from the first Bach Suite. In the section where the notes between the d string and the open a string in the second half, he absolutely glimmered. To this day I am not sure what he did there but both my wife (who is a professional violist and who was there on the stage as well) and I can point to that spot in that concert on that day and remember that it was something special. I think I saw his name at the Norfolk Festival in Connecticut, USA. This is only summers. DG
