Sorry I'm being so obscure. The point I want to make has to do with being sensitive to others. If you were discussing a topic with a friend, in person, you could tell if he or she was becoming upset or angry. When you are writing across the internet, you don't have that advantage. Just as the substitute teacher did not know that the student was close to the edge, we also have no way of knowing when someone is ultrasensitive or even close to the edge. So our best bet is to assume that the other person IS sensitive, and we can try to make sure we are saying whatever we are saying in the nicest possible way.
