Mary-Elizabeth
Davis

Born in 1974, in Kent, England. I began studying the 'cello at the age of eight. Between the ages of 10 and 18 I performed regularly with Kent Music School's various ensembles, the Foreland Orchestra and also undertook solo performances in a series of concerts organised by Evelyn Dove MBE.

Leaving school in 1992, I went on to form a rock band which, breaking from the classical tradition, allowed my 'cello and I to experiment with electronics, transducers and effects pedals. It is however with Bach that I am happiest.

Studying music at the Roehampton Institute since 1995, I hope to graduate in the summer of 1998, and go on to study a postgraduate course in music at Goldsmiths College, London. Recent performances have included appearances with Hammersmith Symphony Orchestra, Brent Opera and a variety of Chamber ensembles.

Favourite works for 'cello include Kodaly's three chorale preludes and Chopin's G minor sonata.
