| The Offenburg String Trio

Martin Merker, cello
The two brothers Frank and Rolf Schilli (violin and viola) and the cellist Martin Merker named their ensemble after their birthplace : Offenburg in South-West Germany. The Offenburg String Trio was founded in 1981, while the group members were still studying at the music academies of Barcelona, Basel, Detmold, Frankfurt and Würzburg. After compleeting their studies and also master classes with the LaSalle, Bartholdy and Buchberger String Quartetts as well as with the German String Trio and the Trio à Cordes Français, the trio was awarded prizes at several chamber music competitions in Germany, France, Italy and The Netherlands. Concert tours took the three musicians to many European countries, to South America and south-east Asia. In recent years the trio has given frequent chamber music master classes. In 1995, the three musicians became artistic directors of the Offenburger Kreuzgangkonzerte, an annual Summer chamber music festival, where each summer young musicians meet to play and give concerts.
