John Kaboff earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from the University of Illinois where he studied with Laurien Laufman. He has studied in master classes with Janos Starker and William Pleeth. He has participated in music festivals such as the Holland Music Sessions and the Kronberg Academy in Germany with Arto Noras. A resident of Washington, D.C., Mr. Kaboff has performed as a soloist at the United States Department of State, the embassies of France and New Zealand, Corcoran Art Museum, Dumbarton House and Strathmore Hall.
Mr. Kaboff currently teaches privately in the greater Washington, D.C. area. His students have won local, regional and national competitions including the Columbia Symphony Concerto Competition, MTNA Competition and the Greensboro Music Academy Competition. His students have been selected to perform in master classes with Yo-Yo Ma, Janos Starker and Carter Brey.
In 1995 and 1996 Mr. Kaboff was invited by the Suzuki Association of Australia to give master classes, lectures and recitals throughout that country. Mr. Kaboff has been awarded outreach and education grants by the Arts Council of Montgomery County in Maryland to present his Meet the Cello program in schools. He has performed with his students in cello choir concerts at libraries, churches and synagogues throughout the Washington, D.C. area.
