Andrew Luchansky, is the cellist in the Sun Quartet, currently in residence at California State University, Sacramento where he is professor of cello and chamber music. Mr. Luchansky is also on the faculty of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Preparatory Division. From 1990 to 1993 he served as professor of cello at the Florida State University School of Music.
Mr. Luchansky earned a Master of Music degree from State University of New York at Stony Brook and a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music. He has performed in the master classes of Gregor Piatigorsky, Bernard Greenhouse, and Anner Bylsma and has studied Chamber Music with members of the Juilliard and Guarneri Quartets, as well as the Beaux Arts Trio. Students of Mr. Luchansky have been winners in numerous state and national competitions and are members of symphony orchestras throughout the United States. He has performed as soloist with orchestras in New York City, Florida, and California.
His performances with Baroque Southeast (a period instument ensemble) have been heard frequently on National Public Radio's "Performance Today." In recent summers, Mr. Luchansky has been a guest artist or faculty member at the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, Summer Music West, and the San Diego Chamber Music Workshop. As a recording artist, Mr. Luchansky has recorded on the Sony Classical label.
